Beta zrake pogode bojilo, pokreću reakciju, a elektroni se preusmjeravaju kroz titan-dioksid i nastaje struja – u suštini, mini nuklearna elektrana u obliku baterije. Zanimljivo je da je radioaktivni materijal korišten s obje strane – i na anodi i na katodi – čime su smanjeni gubici i povećana učinkovitost. Time je energetska konverzija skočila s 0.48% na 2.86%, što je značajan pomak, iako još uvijek daleko od klasičnih litij-ionskih baterija. Ipak, sve ovo pokazuje smjer. Tim planira dodatno poboljšati oblik izvora zračenja i razviti bolje apsorbere, s ciljem veće snage i kompaktnosti.
