Ovo je prvi put da Španjolska neće emitirati natjecanje otkad je na njemu počela sudjelovati 1961. godine. Odluka RTVE-a uslijedila je nakon što je Europska radiodifuzna unija (EBU) izglasala dopuštenje za nastavak sudjelovanja Izraela, usprkos pozivima brojnih zemalja članica na isključenje izraelskog emitera.Španjolska nije usamljena u ovome. Irski RTÉ, nizozemski AVROTROS, slovenski RTVSLO i islandski javni emiter također su se povukli iz istog razloga.
