Načelnik Općine Plitvička Jezera, Hrvoje Matejčić, uputio je javni poziv na mirni prosvjed protiv planirane izgradnje MUP-ovog prihvatnog centra za migrante Načelnik Općine Plitvička Jezera, Hrvoje Matejčić, uputio je javni poziv na mirni prosvjed protiv planirane izgradnje MUP-ovog prihvatnog centra za migrante na lokaciji nekadašnje zrakoplovne baze Željava. Prosvjed će se održati u nedjelju, 22. veljače 2026. godine, s početkom u 12 sati na Trgu sv. Jurja u središtu Korenice. Glavni razlog nezadovoljstva lokalne vlasti i stanovnika je činjenica da Općina, kako navodi načelnik, nije bila službeno kontaktirana niti obaviještena o planovima MUP-a, već su o svemu doznali iz medija. Matejčić ističe kako je strateški smjer razvoja Plitvičkih Jezera isključivo turizam te smatra da jedna od najpoznatijih svjetskih destinacija nije spojiva s objektom ovakve namjene. Prema neslužbenim informacijama kojima raspolaže Općina, na prostoru uz tunele Željave planira se postavljanje privremenog kontejnerskog naselja s oko 450 jedinica dok se ne završi obnova zgrada u bivšoj vojarni. Načelnik upozorava da na toj lokaciji trenutno ne postoji adekvatna infrastruktura poput struje, vode i kanalizacije. Dodatnu zabrinutost izaziva činjenica da bi taj prostor, koji godišnje posjeti više od 50.000 ljudi, mogao biti zatvoren za javnost minimalno dvije godine tijekom trajanja radova. Iz Općine poručuju kako razumiju potrebu za sustavnim rješenjima, ali smatraju da se ona ne bi trebala provoditi na području koje je gospodarski potpuno usmjereno na turizam visoke kategorije. Načelnik Matejčić pozvao je sugrađane na mirno iskazivanje stava ispred zgrade Općine, naglašavajući želju za dijalogom s nadležnim institucijama o budućnosti ovog prostora.
