Patna, the capital of Bihar, is one of India’s oldest continuously inhabited cities. Located along the southern bank of the Ganga, it has played an important role in the history, politics, education, and culture of eastern India.

The city is closely associated with the ancient city of Pataliputra, which became an important center during the Mauryan period. Patna’s historical character can still be seen in places such as Golghar, Patna Sahib, and the Kumhrar archaeological site.
