At just 16 years old, Jamey Ruth Klassen became a heroine by carrying out an impossible rescue
After swimming more than 180 meters across Georgia Bay, she dove more than 3 meters deep to pull from the bottom of the water an unconscious man whose kayak had capsized.
Without a second thought, she supported him on her shoulder and, exhausted but determined, brought him to shore with the help of a paddleboarder who had responded to her cries.
Christopher Robertson, 40, was revived and is alive today thanks to the courage of a teenager who did not hesitate to risk everything.
This act of heroism earned Jamey the Carnegie Medal, the highest civilian honor for bravery in North America.
